If you purchase the 3G iPad yes. You will need to pay ATT $30 a month for the 3G though. But otherwise no it’s like a regular Internet. Hotspots. I did not purchase the iPad that need 3G service. But I can use it were ever there is a hot spot. Hope that helped.
Right now the Wifi ones are for sale at the apple stores or online. The wifi + 3G ipads come out late April according to Apple. Yes they get the internet the same way as a cellphone.

You can buy the 3g one which works like the iphone. But the standard one is just like a wifi one.
it should recieve internet the way other handheld, non-cellular device does. local wireless.
i think it can get internet through 3g but i not sure how it works, and you also have to pay extra. They all come with wifi i do believe.

The iPad does not have a phone card in it (SIM card), it connects to the internet by WiFi.
Unless you purchase the 3G version of it of course. (Doesn’t come out until later)
